Our School Review
What our pupils thought
“The description of characters and places transports you to a brilliant place! I cried when I finished it, knowing there were no more pages to read!”
“I love this book because it shows that you can do anything you put your mind to. There are lots of emotions depicted in the book, and every time you feel like you’re feeling them alongside the characters. It’s definitely a new favourite!”
“I wasn’t expecting to love this book as much as I did. Everything was so beautifully described, and reading it made me feel like I really was in the French countryside, feeling the heat and making friends with famous actors myself. Although there were a lot of tricky subjects talked about, it never felt overwhelming or uncomfortable. I loved the characters and I wanted them to be my friends, too. This book was funny and sweet, and I have so many people I want to recommend it to now.”

About the book club:
What our educators thought
“Every time I asked children how they were getting on with this book, I got a resounding ‘I love it so much!’ Overwhelmingly, all reviewers agreed that the story ended on a feel good note (though they were devastated the book was finished!). It is not necessarily an easy read – the book touches on alcoholism, divorce, mental health, and the death of a parent – but it addresses all these things in a way that is really accessible for older children, and it doesn’t detract from the warmth of the story. I love that it doesn’t shy away from any of this, but it’s definitely one to be careful with. This would be a fantastic read aloud for a Year 6 class, and a brilliant independent read for mature Year 5 and 6 pupils.”
