Our School Review
What our pupils thought
“Starting in the villages of West Africa, Kayode travels across the sparkling, clear waters of the Sia River, deep into swamp-filled forests and finally ends on the jagged peaks of mountains, where the Orishas reside. As he travels, he makes friendships that will last a lifetime and confronts dangers like no other. This book is a joy to read because it is all about determination, friendship and the love of family. The magic and West African mythology are simply amazing and will appeal to anybody who enjoys reading the Rick Riordan or Maz Evans books.”
“I would give this book 5/5 and would love to read more by this exciting author.”

About the book club:
What our educators thought
“We discussed how we loved that the book centred around West African mythology, which is something none of us knew much about and we became immersed in this entirely different culture. The settings were described so clearly, it was as if we were there in the book with the characters. The relationships were developed beautifully and we enjoyed the fantasy element with the link to the gods (Orishas) and mysterious powers. The shape-shifting, trickster god made us laugh and there were moments where we were on the edge of our seats, concerned for the safety of our favourite characters. Overall, I think this would be an excellent book to enjoy with a whole class, with lots of opportunities to leave the children on tenterhooks until you next have a chance to pick the book up!”
