What our educators thought
“This text was really engaging for all of our Reading Ambassadors who read it, from Primary 4 (aged 8) up to Primary 7 (aged 12). As much as this was for our pupils, I did find amusement in it throughout – demonstrating its versatility.
The book opened up a lot of discussion about texts that similarly have the hero vs villain concept, but not in a cartoon format. I also found that it was very easy to be able to read in short spurts due to the small sections, making it ideal to read with a class with a packed curriculum. The fantastic illustrations and fast pace made it incredibly engaging for our readers.
The vocabulary and the number of words in each section made it accessible for everyone as even for our pupils who can find reading challenging, they didn’t find it overwhelming. However, rich vocabulary was still evident throughout with words such as “existential” or “ominous” adding sophistication amongst the nonsense.
Pupils were given copies to take home and read and were returning them the following day for their peers to read demonstrating how much they enjoyed the text. It has opened up a serious interest in graphic novels within our school and I’m excited to see where we go from here.”
