Why reading matters
Give your pupils the best start in life.
It’s been shown time and time again that children who read for pleasure from a young age are more likely to suceed. Don’t just take our word for it though:
“Young people who enjoy reading very much are nearly five times as likely to read above the expected level for their age compared with young people who do not enjoy reading at all.”
“Children who read for pleasure are likely to do significantly better at school than their peers, making greater progress in mathematics, development of vocabulary and spelling.“

Social inequalities in cognitive scores at age 16: The role of reading, 2013
“Developing a love of reading can be more important for a child’s educational success than their family’s socio-economic background.“
“Reading for Pleasure is the single most important indicator of a child’s future success.“
Our mission
Our mission is to make reading rock for every child and create teaching heroes across the country.
We are absolutely, totally and completely passionate about bringing the joy and the value of reading to all children. We care about educators and supporting them in being incredible ambassadors for reading.
Our values
Our values drive everything we do and help us make sure we’re providing a service that promotes change and creates a better life for educators and children.
Community
Reading Rocks started as an online community, sharing ideas and tips on Twitter, and grew from there. We care about educators and want to provide support to not only make their lives easier, but also to improve the larger community by creating a better future for the children of today.
Innovation
We want to bring innovation to educators – by putting a service created for busy modern lives at their fingertips and by always bringing brand new titles to the classroom that are packed with diversity and themes to reflect modern life .
Passion
Our passion drives everything we do.
We’ve walked in the shoes of a primary school educator and understand the challenges. We’re passionate about making creative and inspiring education more accessible to all primary educators – creating today’s classroom heroes and a brighter future for our children.

Our curator
Meet Heather, the founder of Reading Rocks. Heather carefully selects each and every book that goes into our subscription boxes using her extensive experience in education and her knowledge of children’s literature.
Heather founded Reading Rocks in 2016 with a desire to bring together educators with a passion for reading for pleasure. The community began across social media and grew into amazing Saturday CPD events across England.
Heather taught in the primary sector for 15 years, with experience in leading subjects and as a senior leader. As a passionate and innovative teacher she inspired others with her enthusiasm and spark. A career highlight was leading her school in a ‘Year of Reading’, which won an Educate Award and was shortlisted for a TES Award.
Heather’s influence in the education world was recognised in 2018 when she was listed in the top ten influential educators by TES.
In 2020, Heather opened a specialist children’s bookshop called Stories by the Sea. Here she shares the joy of reading with families and schools.
