SUMMARY:Clare Helen Welsh & Fiona Lumbers Author/Illustrator Event
DESCRIPTION:About Clare Helen Welsh\nClare Helen Welsh is a former primary school teacher\, now award-winning children’s writer of over 70 books. She loves silly ideas\, big feelings\, and stories that sneak in learning disguised as fun. Wee? It Wasn’t Me! illustrated by Nicola O’Byrne and published by Macmillan\, won the picture book category of the Lollies in 2023. Clare also runs the popular Books That Help resource. She lives in South-West England with her husband\, two children and a dog called Hope. \nHelen’s website: www.clarehelenwelsh.com \nClare’s instagram (@ClareHelenWelsh) \nAbout Fiona Lumbers\nFiona has drawn on anything and everything from an early age and always insisted she would be an artist when she grew up. \nFiona moved to London in 2000 to study for an MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art. A combination of her obsession with picture books and the arrival of her first son led her down the path of illustration and she hasn’t looked back since. \nNothing makes her happier than splashing watercolours and inks and conjuring up new characters – often influenced by the exploits of her two sons. \nFiona’s instagram (@fiona_lumbers) \nWhat to expect from the event\nWhen her granddaughter is missing her old home\, Granny teaches her a secret; buds before flowers\, tadpoles before frogs\, batter before cake… changes aren’t so scary when we understand that the space between is a time for growth. \nChildren can listen to a reading of the story\, take part in a short book quiz and reflect on times of change in their lives. Bring a pencil and piece of paper to take part in a special draw-a-long! \nFocus Book\nThe session will focus on the book\, The Space Between\, (1839133813). \n \nBuy the book\nIf you’d like to buy the book for your school before or after the event\, we offer a substantial discount on the RRP price. Please email events@wherereadingrocks.com to order book. Orders received 7 days before the event will arrive in time for the event. \nWe can also offer this book at a discounted rate to families PLUS your school will also receive a 5% credit (based on the value of the books sold to families) towards any future book purchases made through Reading Rocks. To enquire about our family discounts email events@wherereadingrocks.com. \nAbout the Book\nBook title: The Space Between \nGranny has a secret: big changes aren’t so scary when we take comfort in the time it takes to embrace them. \nWhen her granddaughter is missing her old home\, Granny teaches her a secret. The flower buds aren’t quite open\, but they will be soon: they’re in the space between\, and that time is a gift to treasure. Just like the flowers will soon bloom\, in time she will feel at home. But Granny’s in the space between too . . . and she might need a little help to come out on the other side. \nPublisher: Andersenpress
