Our School Review

What our pupils thought

“This book was an inspiring adventure where Edward and Elodie – the main characters (twins) – go through so much. Not only do they make a new friend, but they also complete their mission, to find another artezan master. Laurie turns out to be a master a dying spirit talks to Elodie – warning her – and twins lose their parents. They also find out that one of the people they trusted the most never existed and they almost die once or twice because of coming into contact with pure iron – which strips artezans of their powers. I think that Jack and Harrison (the twins dad) will probably get his memory back but it will have more suspense if it is at the end of the next book. I also think that Finevan will get destroyed because Ed, Elodie and Laurie will trick him and end up destroying them. I cannot wait for the third book now!” By Katie year 5

“Artezans: The Whispering World got me hooked! After every word, I held my breathe with anticipation and excitement, yearning for the book to never end. My heart bounced with every twist and turn as the story shaped its way into a magnificent book in general. Even if you haven’t read book 1, it is easy to understand the plot and the characters and you can especially connect and emphasis with each personality and traits of the individual person. It is an AMAZING read and I would recommend it to EVERYONE, but mainly to those who love a bit of magic and adventure. I was hooked on the ending and CANNOT Wait for book 3!” By Olivia year 6

“I enjoyed this book because of the many plot twists it kept throwing at me. I liked the suspense and confusion of the prologue that came in as part of the story later in the book. i haven’t come across this author but the description and the characters I could relate with really hooked me into the read more. The friendship between the character (Ed, Elodie and Laurie) got me a little frustrated but overall it was a brilliant story. I think the blurb was the main things that persuaded me to get reading the book. I can’t wait for the third book to come out.” By Erin year 6

“After reading this book, all I was thinking about was, what is going to happen next? I was hooked on every page I read and especially the bit where Mr. Biscuits comes back. I felt such a connection between Ed and Elodie that could be formed by a tremendous write. An amazing read from the illuminating author, L. D. Lapinski. I would recommend it to people of all ages.” By Alexandra year 6

I would rate this book as 4 1/2 out of 5 because I found it hard to understand to start with. I liked how the character were unique because it represented how we are all individuals. I found it scary at times as I could feel myself in their shoes. Some parts are unexpected and it had many twists and turns which kept me guessing, which is what I enjoy in books. I would recommend this back to friends and families.” By Eleanor year 6

“I loved the entertainment of this story and it didn’t disappoint! I also enjoyed the adventure as it made me want to read on. The story was very moving and I can’t wait for the next new book to come out after this fantastic one. I thought it was a rollercoaster of an escapade with the detailed description exploding out of the pages. A very good book. It truly hooked me in with surprise and shock.” By Fynn year 5

About the book club:

Our book club is currently for any children in year 5 and 6. We get together every couple of weeks to discuss the book we are reading. We also create book recommendations to be put up around school and have creative sessions for making book dioramas.

What our educators thought

“From the very first page the story hooked us. The love for the cat (Mr. Biscuits) and the family was evident to see. The diverse nature of the family unit (being two dads of adopted twins) is just part of the story and doesn’t seem to have been added because it needs to tick the ‘diverse’ box. Their dads love shines through in the way they protect the children in the prologue all the way through from the stormy sea trip to being part of the island full of magical people. There are many twists and turns that they face as the children start to explore the island and meet new people who have a secret. The twins have a strong bond, as expected, showing a range of feelings: love, hate, jealousy, but when they have to face some time away from each other Elodie has to continue being strong and understanding of Ed’s powers as he enters the dream world in order to survive. This opened up discussions about being separated from family members and how we would cope in similar situations. Likewise, the way the children have been brought up, in a supportive family unit, being allowed to develop their magical abilities (in a safe environment) helped us to consider our own families and rules parents have to keep their children safe and how each family does this differently. Connections made between Elodie and Laurie show how trust can be built in characters (and ourselves) that can change the way friendship in seen. In the book, Laurie isn’t allowed to use her powers at all and Elodie is desperate to find out why and wants to help her friend practice her skills; she has to learn the reasons behind this. As these two girls grow closer, they have to connect in a trusting way that others try to stop. The ending is emotional and we are left hoping the family reunites again in the third book. I can’t wait to see what the next book brings about.”
