What our pupils thought
“I really enjoyed this book, from the evil plots to the daring adventure itself. I loved experiencing the whole journey, every step of the way, with Flo and Joseph as they board a submarine, alongside someone they barely know, and venture to an island ‘that doesn’t exist’. On the adventure of a lifetime, they discover the truth as to who is behind this life- changing scheme… I would recommend this book to 8-11 year olds in search of a must-read book based on climate change and would rate it a solid 4 out of 5 stars!” Evie
“The Wanderdays is a risk-taking book which leads you on a mysterious and nail-biting adventure. Flo and Joseph Wanderday find out that their mum, one of the world’s greatest explores, suddenly goes missing on a swash-buckling adventure in the sea. It It takes courage, bravery and perseverance to find -out and accept that one of their biggest role models isn’t what they seem. I would advise that 8-12 read this book. Personally I would rate this book a 4/5 since even though the author is passionate about climate change, there aren’t many facts about it. It is truly a blood stopping book which lures you in so much that you can’t put it down until you finish it, then want to read it again. When you think that you know what is going to happen, the story take an unexpected turn.” Lucy
“Journeying to and around Phantom Island they are surprised with many unexpected twists and turns, as they undertake an unsolved mystery. I would definitely recommend this book to others aged around 8-12 as a 4 out of 5 rating due to the enjoyment and pleasure the story gives. Filled with risk-taking adventures involving many fantastical creatures, however, not everything is as it seems…” Amun
“I would rate ‘The Wanderdays’ a 4 out of 5. It is a thriller with a fun, energetic plot but a sad start, with mysteries that unfold bit-by-bit. During their time on Fantom Island, they discover unexpected twists and turns and the author Clare Povey gives no clues. I would recommend this book to 8-12 year olds. My favourite part was when they snooped around one of their Mum’s friend’s house. Although tension is built, it can be released easily and quickly. It builds up and up to something pretty big and shocking. Definitely a good read!” Freya

What our educators thought
“The book is a lovely adventure story that also supports our learning on climate change. I would encourage Years 5/6 to read the book alongside our unit of learning The Last Bear by Hannah Golding. I wouldn’t say that the language and style of the book lend it to being a text study in itself, but it would be a super reading for pleasure book.”
