“This book has been wonderful for the children. They have all been really engaged with it, and the fact they have all had a text to share has been hugely beneficial. As for the book, the game element has resonated with lots of the boys, as they either see similarities with games that they play, or enjoy the adventure and battles that the characters get into. The Top Trumps-style of some of the illustrations could easily be something that the children can do for themselves, either about their own personalities, or in creating new, additional characters. The book has lots of subtle humour, but the children understood this well and were able to talk to each other about it. There are also more serious themes, such as bullying and name-calling from one of the non-central characters, which has been a good talking point for the children in the book club. The best endorsement for the book is that all six children have fully engaged, have read regularly, have really enjoyed the discussions, and want the third book in the series already!”
