About the book club:

Our Early Years book club is open to Nursery and Reception children, who choose to come to the club during their free-flow time. Our book club is all about reading for pleasure, so we relax in our amazing Reading Retreat, snuggling on bean bags and cushions. We talk about the front cover and author/s and predict what the book could be about. Then we share the book, with children choosing if they want to join in or listen. As we read, we talk about the pictures, what we like or dislike and how things relate to us, our lives and the world. To help us understand the vocabulary, we like to act out parts too.

What our educators thought

“This positive book ensured that all of the children were able to identify with one or more of the characters and situations. This built their confidence as they were able to reflect on all the things that they can do.

The detailed pictures helped children to relate the experiences to their own lives, with everyone spotting something different, which engaged them in conversation. The repetitive sentence structure means that children could easily join in with the story. They could orally rehearse their own sentences in the same pattern, so it would be easy to write in the style of the author/s.”
