About Chrissie

Chrissie Sains grew up in Billericay, Essex, where she spent her childhood seeking adventure and finding trouble. Described by her teachers as having a “lively imagination”, Chrissie’s escapades include her attempted rescue of the school’s pet fish and the discovery of a dead body in a field that turned out to be two tyres under a sheet. She has swum with sharks, scuba-dived shipwrecks and sky-dived from a plane. Chrissie has a background in marketing and events but now writes full time. She is the author of the Jam Factory series and the co-author of I Got This, with Cara Mailey. She lives in Essex with her husband, two bookworms and two rabbits.

What to expect from the event

Welcome to Beastopia, a sanctuary for some very unusual magical creatures!

Join Chrissie as she introduces the world of Beastopia, talks you through her world-building process and finally, finds out if you have what it takes to become an Apprentice Guardian.

Together, you will:

• Step into the world of Beastopia and meet some of its unusual magical creatures.
• Discover how the idea for Beastopia first began (would you believe it all started with a school visit?!)
• See how real animals and myths were transformed into magical beasts.
• Take on the challenge to prove you’re ready to be an Apprentice Guardian – test your beastly reactions, then work together to invent a brand-new magical creature of our own.
• For a final bit of fun, find out which Guardian you would be from the Beastopia team
