About Hannah

Hannah has always loved two things: Writing and silliness. As a child, you could mostly find her scribbling poems or giggling at comedies, like Mr Bean, on TV.

As a grown-up, Hannah puts all that silliness into her stories. When she’s not writing books, you can sometimes find her writing sensible things for businesses, too.

Buy the book

Buy the books for your school up to 7 days before the event and we’ll make sure they arrive before the event (please note, you will need to check out the books separately to your tickets as we can not process event credit transactions and card payments in the same transaction).

We will send you a printable pdf with a link for parents to buy the book after the event via email in the lead up to the event.

What to expect

Have you got what it takes to be a vampire dentist?

In this 60-minute session (including a 15-minute Q&A) I’ll:

  • Introduce myself and my stories.
  • Test your dental knowledge with questions and facts about animal teeth.
  • Introduce the vampire dentists in Small Bites Back – asking the students what they would typically expect a vampire to be like before I do the reading.
  • Talk about my approach for creating surprising characters (which is to list the things people already expect and then find a way to flip them and tell an alternative story. I’ve included a worksheet students can use to create their own surprising characters).
  • Have a go at creating 3 alternative characters (a wicked witch, a werewolf and a fairy godmother). This is partly just good fun but also a reminder to students not to judge characters or people simply based on what others have told them as it’s often wrong).
  • Finish up with a Q&A.

Here’s the author with an introduction to get your pupils excited about the event!
